From the Daily Newspaper "Dziennik Polski": Polish children are finding themselves in the worse situation materially in all of Europe. The paper also states that they are surrounded by an emotional emptiness, which they are trying to fill with “things”. The paper also mentions that more than 41 thousand children in the last year found themselves victims of domestic violence, 106 became destitute, and it was also noted that there were 28 cases of infanticide.
These Police statistics do not include however many other problems which make up this sad picture of the childhood of Polish children: such as the lack of material goods within families, trouble accessing doctors and pediatricians, or the entanglement of children in the conflicts between divorcing parents. - Marek Michalak, spokesperson for the rights of children, mentions one problem connected with this, that “Children’s Day” (June 1st) in many homes this year will not be a holiday. - The universal problem of Polish children today above all is the crisis of time, what type, we – parents and caregivers – dedicate to them. Bustling, overworked, we can lose this time and the children as well, but Childhood only comes once. We, as adults, should not be permitted to overlook this special time - adds Michalak. 1.8 million Poles under the age of 19, suffer because of poverty. In our country - according to OECD’s report – the children appear the lowest from among the 32 countries belonging to the organization. The material situation of children in Poland was rated among the worst of 21 European countries also by UNICEF. In both reports Scandinavian countries were among the best. http://wiadomosci.onet.pl/2178524,11,fatalne_dane_ws_dziecinstwa_polskich_dzieci,item.html
